The standard series of the CAT family answers those who need an easy-to-use circuit breaker timer and analyzer at a contained price. Its five models measure the opening and closing times of medium- and high-voltage breakers, record the coil currents and, in the higher versions, the travel curve of the moving contacts; all inside an unbreakable plastic case rated IP67 with the lid closed and weighing between 5.5 and 7 kg.
Advantages
A stepped range
The CAT03 sticks to timing the main contacts with one break per phase; the CAT31 adds breaker operation, coil currents and auxiliary contacts; the CAT61 doubles to two breaks per phase, and the CAT34 and CAT64 add two analog channels and travel curve recording.
Autonomy in the substation
With the optional internal Li-ion battery, any model works up to 8 hours without mains, very useful in bays where no auxiliary supply is available.
Results at hand
The internal memory stores 500 tests with numerical and graphical data, results can be copied to a USB stick, and the optional 58 mm thermal printer prints tables and curves right next to the breaker.
Triggers for every test condition
The measurement can start from the coil control channel, the analog channels, the auxiliary channels or the external trigger, so the operation may be initiated from the control room, a local switch or the instrument itself.
Applications
- Electric power generation, transmission and distribution.
- MV and HV circuit breakers with one or two breaks per phase.
- O, C, O-0.3s-C, CO, O-0.3s-CO, O-C, C-O and O-C-O sequences.
- Testing contractors and industrial environments.
- Pole synchronisation checks per IEC 62271-100 and IEEE C37.09.
About the product
The devices measure up to 6 main contacts with pre-insertion resistor detection, 3 dry or wet auxiliary contacts and 2 coil currents up to ±35 A. Time resolution is 0.1 ms with 0.05% accuracy, and the PC software controls every function and assesses each test against more than 500 test plans. Accessories: contact cables with SCT clamps, extensions, auxiliary cables, transducers and current clamps.

Frequently asked questions
Which model suits me?
For plain timing, the CAT03; to operate the breaker and see coils and auxiliaries, the CAT31 or CAT61 depending on the number of breaks; for travel curves and analog signals, the CAT34 or CAT64.
Can it measure the travel curve?
Yes, on the CAT34 and CAT64: the universal channel accepts analog or digital transducers and the software turns the record into stroke, rebound, damping and average velocity.
Does it work without mains power?
With the optional internal battery, up to 8 hours of testing; charging is managed by the instrument and the indicator shows when it is complete.
How are results documented in the field?
On the optional 58 mm thermal printer, on a USB stick or by downloading to a PC; each test keeps its numerical data and graphs.
