Acronym for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition. A SCADA system allows you to monitor and control a remote facility, process or system of varying characteristics. The physical phenomenon to be measured must be translated into an intelligible variable for SCADA, i.e. an electrical variable. To do this, sensors or transducers are used to convert the variations of the physical phenomenon into proportional variations of an electrical variable. The most commonly used electrical variables are: voltage, current, load, resistance or capacitance. However, this variety of electrical signal types must be processed to be understood by the digital computer. In addition, it provides electrical isolation and signal filtering in order to protect the system from noise originating in the field.
