CAT Standard

Circuit breaker analyzers and timers

Timing measurement of MV and HV circuit breakers, solved with the essentials.

Five stepped models

The CAT03 times the main contacts with one break per phase; the CAT31 adds breaker operation, coil current and auxiliaries; the CAT61 moves to two breaks per phase, and the CAT34 and CAT64 add two analog channels and travel curve recording with a transducer.

Simplicity that survives the field

Stand-alone or PC-controlled devices, with an unbreakable plastic case rated IP67 with the lid closed, between 5.5 and 7 kg of weight and an optional internal battery giving up to 8 hours of testing where no auxiliary supply exists.

Main features

  • Up to 6 main contacts with pre-insertion resistors.
  • 3 dry or wet auxiliary contacts, galvanically isolated.
  • 2 coil current channels up to ±35 A.
  • O, C, O-0.3s-C, CO, O-0.3s-CO, O-C, C-O and O-C-O sequences.
  • Memory for 500 tests and download to USB stick.
  • Optional 58 mm thermal printer for tables and curves.
  • Triggering by coils, analog, auxiliary or external trigger.

Applications and software

Timing a high-voltage breaker in the substation

Applications

  • Power generation, transmission and distribution.
  • MV and HV breakers with one or two breaks per phase.
  • Pole synchronisation per IEC 62271-100 and IEEE C37.09.
  • Travel curves with linear or rotary transducer (CAT34/CAT64).
  • Testing contractors and industrial environments.

PC software for control and analysis

The included PC software controls every function, guides the test step by step, assesses each result against reference values and builds customisable reports; its database accepts over 500 test plans of common breakers.

Motion truly measured

The universal transducer channel accepts analog or digital sensors and delivers stroke, contact wipe, over-travel, rebound, damping and average velocity, with a transfer function to convert the record into the contact's real displacement.
