Measuring how fast the air is moving inside a duct, without putting anything in its way. Combustion air, mill air, filter air. If you do not know how much is flowing, you are tuning the plant blind. And the classic instruments struggle exactly where it matters: dust, heat and changing conditions. This system takes a different route. Dusty air carries electrostatic patterns, and turbulence makes each one unique.
Two sensors, 350 millimetres apart, see the same pattern pass, one after the other. The delay between them is measured, and the velocity follows. Because it is a time measurement, it does not need calibrating, and almost nothing in the process can bias it. The whole system is one box and two rods. The box does the correlation and puts the velocity out as a 4 to 20 milliamp signal. The sensors are simple rods that reach into the duct. Because they are rods and not a single point,
they average a whole section of the flow. And when the air is clean, or very slow, there is nothing for the sensors to follow. That is what the range extender is for: it adds a signature upstream so the pair has something to track. It was built for the places where dust and heat rule out everything else.
