What it does

The analyser measures the contact timing of a circuit breaker, the travel of its mechanism, the current and voltage of coils and motor, and the resistance of the poles, in a single test. The evaluation logic separates the pre-insertion resistor contact from the main contact within the same operation, and the value of the pre-insertion resistor can be measured with a reference shunt.

Main features

  • Twelve main contact timing channels and six auxiliary channels, which can also work as main contacts where induction is low.
  • Three digital or analogue transducer inputs for travel, with a wide range of fastenings available.
  • Built-in micro-ohmmeter that generates 200 A for static and dynamic resistance of the poles.
  • Automatic measurement of coil and motor current and voltage, with an adjustable supply for the minimum function voltage test.
  • First trip analysis: the breaker can be tested during an on-line operation, both on trip and on close.
  • Full analysis of point-on-wave switching for capacitor banks and shunt reactors.
  • No panel switches: two push buttons, open and close, and a backlit display.

Safety and portability

  • Designed to work in switchyards with high induction, where lighter timers fail.
  • Both-side earthed testing is supported with the companion earthing unit.
  • Metal carrying case, 458 x 331 x 153 mm and about 12 kg.

Every measurement lands in the analysis software, which draws the travel curve and produces the test report.

Measurement and analysis

From the curve to the parameters

The software calculates the parameters that describe the mechanism from the recorded travel curve: total stroke, contact travel, over-travel, rebound and average speed, together with the timing of every contact. Curves and figures are stored in the same record, so operations can be compared over the life of the breaker.

Static and dynamic resistance

The built-in micro-ohmmeter injects 200 A and records the value automatically alongside the rest of the measurements. Dynamic resistance measurement shows how the pole behaves during the operation, which reveals the state of the arcing contacts without dismantling the chamber.

Analysis software

  • Included with the analyser, for Windows, with report generation and export.
  • Compatible with the manufacturer's factory line test equipment.

  • Communication over RS-232 or USB; a wireless kit allows the computer to be up to 100 m away.
