Description Batteries are a crucial part of the overall reliability of a substation. During power failure, many electrical objects/systems, such as power plants and generator excitation systems, must continue to operate on batteries. The inability of a battery string to provide sufficient voltage/power supply to the protection circuits can have catastrophic consequences for the substation equipment. Therefore, it is necessary that batteries are regularly inspected to monitor their condition and maximize their life. The essential and most reliable test to assess the condition of a battery is the capacity measurement test. The best way to measure the capacity of a battery is to perform a discharge test.
Battery Charging Units - BLU series are stand-alone or PC-controlled battery capacity testers, based on state-of-the-art technology, using the most advanced power electronics solutions with integrated refrigerators and fans in the device. The BLU series devices are a lightweight solution for test engineers worldwide, developed to meet the customer's wide-ranging test procedures (both standardized and customized). Using a BLU device, capacity testing is performed in an accurate and user-friendly manner, in accordance with actual standards for battery testing (IEEE 450-2010 / 1188-2005 / 1106-2015, IEC 60896-11/22 and other relevant standards).
The discharge can be done at constant current, constant power, constant resistance or according to a pre-selected load profile. The discharge test can be carried out even if a battery remains connected to the load, by measuring and taking into account the charging current during the process.
