What the AMIC-10K1 measures at up to 10 kV, how its guard terminal is wired on a screened cable and on a transformer, and how burnout and temperature correction complete the diagnosis. The higher the rated voltage of the plant, the higher the test voltage it needs. Medium voltage cables, large machines, and power transformers are tested at up to 10 kV, and the resistance is followed over time to judge the insulation, not just to pass or fail it. Any test voltage from 50 V to 10 kV, resistance up to 40 TΩ,

a test current of up to 6 mA for large capacitances, and a burnout function to locate the damage. Why choose the test current? A long cable is a large capacitor, and it must be charged before the reading settles. At 10 kV, one microfarad takes about 8.7 seconds at 1.2 mA, and only 1.7 seconds at 6. On the right, the plus, guard, and minus sockets,

and below them the sockets for the temperature probe and the multi-core cable adapter. The rotary switch selects the test voltage, step voltage, dielectric discharge, and burnout. The graphic display draws the measurement as it runs. meter comes with 3 test leads rated 15 kV, 3 m long, in red, blue, and shielded black, with crocodile clips. Also, the mains cable, the USB cable, the case, and the calibration certificate.

Longer leads, a temperature probe, and a multi-core cable adapter are options. routine. Make the object dead and keep it earthed until the leads are on. Pick the voltage with the switch and fine-tune it with F1. Set the cable capacitance, the time, and the limit with F2, F3, and F4. Hold start for 5 seconds. At the end, the object is discharged automatically. a screen cable, a damp surface between core and screen adds a current that is not insulation. Wrap a metal foil around the core insulation and connect it to G.

The red lead goes to the cable screen, the blue lead to the foil, and the black, shielded lead to the conductor. Between one winding and the tank, the other winding goes to G. The red lead goes to the earthed tank, the blue lead to the bonded LV terminals, and the black lead to the bonded HV terminals under test. Current from HV to LV no longer enters the result. every test, the meter calculates the absorption indices D, A, R, and P, I. The step voltage mode runs 5 steps up to 10 kV,

and the dielectric discharge test gives DD. Below 2, the insulation is okay. Above 7, it is bad. Normally, a breakdown stops the test at once. In the burnout position, the meter keeps the voltage on after the breakdown, so the discharges can be heard at the fault and the damaged spot can be found. Insulation resistance falls as temperature rises, so readings taken on different days only compare at the same temperature.

The meter converts the result to 20 degrees for cables or 40 for rotating machines for oil or solid insulation, as in ANSI/NETA ATS-2009. The meter measures the capacitance of a cable while it discharges it. Enter the capacitance per kilometer from the cable data, say 300 nF, and a reading of 68.1 nF gives a length of 227 meters. Near live plant, the meter reports interference and keeps measuring below 50 V DC or 1500 V AC. Above that, the object counts as live and the test is blocked.

Digital filters of 10 to 200 seconds steady the reading. Results are stored by client, site, and measuring point. 990 cells, 10,000 records. They go to the PC over USB or Bluetooth, and the mobile app shows the graphs live. Measuring Category 4 at 600 V, IP67 with the lid closed, at least 1,000 tests per battery charge, and work from minus 20 to 50 degrees. Power transformers, motors and generators, medium voltage cables and their jackets, capacitors and switchgear, and the continuity of protective bonding at 200 mA.
