What the AMIC-15K1 adds to insulation testing at 15 kV, ramp test, partial discharge indicator, surface and volume resistance, and how it is connected for each of them. The test voltage follows the rating of the equipment. The ANSI/NETA ATS-2009 tables ask for 15 kV DC and at least 100,000 MΩ, on equipment rated 34.5 kV and above. That is the job of this analyser. Any test voltage from 50 V to 15 kV in steps of 10 V, resistance up to 40 TΩ,

a converter of about 150 W with up to 10 mA, and diagnostics beyond the resistance itself. The plus, guard and minus sockets are on the right, rated for 15 kV. The rotary switch has fixed test voltages from 50 V to 15 kV, plus DD, SV, ramp test, and burnout. Start, held for 5 seconds, runs the test. Standard, 3 shielded test leads rated 15 kV, 3 m long, red, blue, and black, with crocodile clips.

Also the mains cable, the USB cable, the case, straps, and the calibration certificate. Leads up to 20 m are options. The routine. Make the object dead and keep it earthed until the leads are on. Choose the voltage with the switch. With menu. Set the times, the current limit of 1.2 to 7 mA, and the limit. Hold start for 5 seconds. The object is discharged through 255 kΩ at the end.

a screened cable, each conductor is tested against all the others. Bond L1, L2, L3, and PE to the screen, unearth them. RISO+, the red lead, goes to that group. RISO-, the black lead, goes to the conductor under test, here N. the S, our mode 1 connection gives two results. A guard band on the insulator separates the current over its surface from the current through its body. RISO+ goes to the earthed flange,

G to the band, and RISO- to the HV terminal. The meter measures the total, then the volume resistance, and calculates the surface resistance. Every test also gives the classic indices, DAR and PI from the absorption curve, a step voltage series up to 15 kV, and DD, with the discharge current read after 60 seconds, or up to almost 100 minutes. ramp test raises the voltage smoothly, at a rate you set from 100 volts to 12 kV per minute, up to a final value, and holds it for a set time.

If the insulation breaks down on the way, the meter stops and records the voltage and the time. Partial discharges burn tiny gas voids inside the insulation and weaken it over time. During any test, F3 or F4 opens the partial discharge indicator. Discharges per second and their charge. The figures are indicative, not a measurement to IEC 60270. For cable faults, the burnout function keeps the voltage on after a breakdown,

with more than 11 mA for the first 10 seconds. The fault can then be found by sight on exposed cables, by reflectometry, or with a geophone or an A-frame on buried ones. the mobile app, the meter is controlled from a distance, and the graphs follow the test live. It records the polarization and depolarization currents of a cable and tests surge arrestors by raising the voltage until 1 mA flows. analyzer is built for substations next to lines of up to 1200 kV AC and 800 kV DC.

Interference of up to 1500 volts AC is tolerated, and digital filters average the reading over 10 to 200 seconds. Measuring category 4 at 1000 volts, IP67 with the lid closed, about 5 hours of testing on one charge, and work up to 3000 meters. Generators and large motors, power transformers, high voltage cables, capacitors and switchgear, and electric rail vehicles, wherever the rating calls for 15 kV.
