Three-phase relay protection test set, stand-alone or PC-controlled

Commissioning and maintaining protection systems in the field calls for a three-phase relay test set that can be used without a computer and that, when a PC is at hand, allows automatic tests with reports. The AHZJB-I generates four 0-120 V voltages and three 0-40 A currents with class 0.2 accuracy, reaching 120 A in parallel, and is operated from its LCD display with a rotary knob or from a PC via USB.

AHZJB-I key data

  • Current: 3 × 0-40 A per phase or 1 × 0-120 A with all three phases in parallel; 450 VA per phase and 900 VA in parallel; 10 A continuous. DC: 0-±10 A per phase and 0-±30 A in parallel.
  • Voltage: UA, UB, UC and UX at 0-120 V phase-neutral and 0-240 V phase-phase (80/100 VA); DC: 0-±160 V and 0-±320 V (70/140 VA). UX works as 3U0, synchronism voltage or free voltage.
  • Accuracy and frequency: class 0.2 on AC and 0.5 on DC; 20-1000 Hz and harmonics up to 20th order.
  • Inputs and outputs: 8 binary inputs for dry contacts or wet contacts at 0-250 V, and 4 outputs rated 220 V DC / 0.2 A and 220 V AC / 0.5 A.
  • Timing: measurement from 0.1 ms with accuracy better than 0.1 ms; seven-channel timer for circuit breakers.
  • Operation: backlit LCD display, rotary knob and step keys, with ten stand-alone tests; PC control via USB with the included software.
  • Unit: 110/220 V, 1.5 A auxiliary DC supply; 220 V AC ±10 %, 50/60 Hz; −10 °C to +50 °C; 400 × 300 × 180 mm and 22 kg.

Advantages

Works without a computer

Ten tests—AC, DC, frequency, synchronization, direction and impedance, differential, harmonics, complete-set I and II and timing—are set up and started from the unit itself with the rotary knob.

More functions with a PC

Connected via USB, the included software adds state sequence, distance and zero-sequence, impedance characteristic, 6-35 kV line protection, fault playback, vector diagrams and reports.

Multifunction UX output

The fourth voltage can be configured as 3U0, as a synchronism voltage or as any voltage, without rewiring.

Alerts on the current outputs

An indicator next to each current terminal signals waveform distortion or an open circuit before the test is accepted as valid.

Applications

  • Current, voltage, frequency, time, directional power, impedance and synchronism relays.
  • Line protection with auto-reclosing, distance and zero-sequence.
  • Transformer differential protection and harmonic blocking.
  • 6-35 kV line protection in distribution substations.
  • Circuit-breaker closing and opening time measurement.

About the product

The AHZJB-I is a portable three-phase relay test set measuring 400 × 300 × 180 mm and weighing 22 kg, powered from 220 V AC. The front panel holds the voltage and current outputs, the binary inputs and outputs, the LCD display and the rotary knob; the rear panel holds the 110/220 V auxiliary DC supply, the PC port, the earth terminal and the fuses. It is supplied with a USB cable, the software, test leads, clips, terminals and spare fuses.

Frequently asked questions

Can the AHZJB-I be used without a computer?

Yes. Its LCD display and rotary knob give access to ten tests. A PC is only needed for the advanced modules and reports.

What is its maximum current?

40 A per phase and 120 A with all three phases in parallel for 10 s. Up to 10 A per phase it can operate continuously.

What is the UX output for?

It is a fourth voltage that can be configured as 3U0, as a synchronism voltage for the synchronization test or as any other voltage.

Can it measure circuit-breaker times?

Yes. In the timing test it works as a seven-channel millisecond timer and measures the times of each pole and the difference between them.

How does it differ from the AHZJB-1200?

The AHZJB-I is three-phase, with four voltages and three 40 A currents; the AHZJB-1200 has six voltages and six currents, suited to three-phase transformer differential protection, and a built-in computer.
